Rumford Iron Works
When I was 14 my uncle taught me how to weld to fix tractor parts. I immediately fell in love with the manipulation of metal. In high school I took two welding course and one blacksmithing workshop at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI. I built my own forge and continued to teach myself the craft, I also spent time with Ian Eddy, a blacksmith in Saxtons River, VT. I enrolled at Lafayette College in 2012 as a prospective mechanical engineer, thinking this was the best application for my ability to manipulate metal; I never considered the application of my skill beyond the practical value it held. I quickly learned I did not want to be an engineer, took a year off, and came back in 2013 as an art and English double major. I graduated Lafayette in 2017 with a degree in English: creative writing, and art: studio, with departmental honors in art after completing my thesis, "The Venocan Archive." The name Rumford Iron Works came from when my only studio space was a corner of a single car garage and the driveway of my home in Rumford, RI. Neighbors and passers by would often ask where my parent's had purchased the sculptures in our yard, so I made a "Rumford Iron Works" sign and hung it on the garage.
I currently live in Foster, RI while I continue my artistic pursuits and work on a portfolio for grad-school.
